GRANTS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE Melbourne Dental School AND PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATES

Grant applications must be submitted to the Research Administrator, Melbourne Dental School, by the internal deadline date. DO NOT submit grant applications directly to external granting bodies OR go by the deadline dates printed on the external websites.

Australian Dental Research Foundation (ADRF) Research Grants

Who can apply? Academic staff and postgraduate research students

Value of Grant: $5,000-$15,000

The ADRF will award the ADIA Research Prize to the primary applicant on the highest ranked research grant each year. Information on the ADIA Research Prize, including former winners, can be found on page 12 of the ADRF Annual Report

Australian Dental Research Foundation (ADRF) Undergraduate Research Grants

Who can apply? 1st, 2nd and 3rd year BDSc & 1st and 2nd year BOH students.

Value of Grant: $2,200 to be paid in installments

Conditions: For a supervised research project to be undertaken over summer

The student deemed the best applicant from The Melbourne Dental School will be nominated for The Trebitsch Prize. The Trebitsch Prize is awarded to one student nationally each year

The student who submits the best final report (nationally) for this program will be awarded
The Leonard Hansen Undergraduate Research Prize.

Postgraduate Travel Award

Who can apply? Postgraduate research students

Value of Grant: $2,000 for international conference, $1,000 for local conference. Students are entitled to funding support for one local and one international conference throughout their candidature

ADRF Colin Cormie Scholarship

Who can apply? Undergraduate students willing to interrupt their course to undertake a one year intercalate degree, or recent graduates who wish to undertake a suitable one year research-based program leading to a further degree

Value of Grant: $8,600 plus $1,500 for consumables

ADRF R.W. Hession Award

Who can apply? Academic staff

Value of Grant: $15,000

Conditions: To be used for overseas research-related travel for not less than six weeks, or to assist with doctoral research

Frequency: Biennially

Ernest Joske Research Award

Who can apply? Heads of Sections will be asked by the Melbourne Dental School Research Committee to nominate one academic staff member from their section.

Value of Grant: Approx $8,500

Eligibility & Criteria: The award is an early career award based on published research of the three years prior to the award

Frequency: Triennially

  Next award will be given in 2008. Dates TBA

Gordon Castles Trust Fund (from 2009)

This Gordon Castles Trust will fund a PhD Scholarship in 2009. It will be open to both local and overseas students and will be for approximately $25,000 p.a. for 3 years with the possibility of a 6 month extension.

Further details on application procedures will be disseminated in due course

   

Oral Cancer Research Fund

The Oral Cancer Research Fund established the Peter Reade Oral Cancer Travel Award to support a postgraduate student in presenting their research at the International Academy of Oral Oncology conference which is held every 2 years.

 

The next International Academy of Oral Oncology conference is due to be held in 2009.
