- Graduate Certificate in Dental Therapy (Advanced Clinical Practice)
The Graduate Certificate in Dental Therapy will qualify practising dental therapists and oral health therapists to expand service provision to patients of all ages within the scope of dental therapy practice. Awards for Staff and Students
At the 2014 Australia and New Zealand Divisional Meeting of the International Association for Dental Research Meeting held in Brisbane at the start of October, Professor Michael Burrow was awarded the prestigious Alan Docking IADR Science Award. The award recognises Michael’s sustained contribution and excellence in oral health research. The award is made on the basis of outstanding scientific achievement in the field of dental research over a period of time. The assessment is based on published work and was created to acknowledge distinguished research in dentistry. The Award honours the late Alan Robert Docking in view of his achievements in dental research.
Michelle Mun, a 3rd year DDS student, was awarded an IADR travel award to attend the Boston IADR in March 2015. The award was made on the basis of her outstanding research into the carriage rates of Candida. Michelle is being supervised by Professor Michael McCullough.
Gianni Bramante, a 4th year DDS student won the best presentation by a dental student presenter at the New Zealand Society of Hospital and Community Dentistry conference in Taupo, New Zealand, in July 2014.
Staff recognised at the 2014 Prizes and Awards Ceremony
At the recent 2014 Awards ceremony staff members Dr Samantha Byrne and Dr Rebecca Wong were recipients of awards for excellence in teaching. Dr Wong received the IJ Marks and TC Adamson prize for the most significant contribution to the advancement of dental education. Dr Byrne received the WM and AV Eggleston Trust Excellence in Teaching Award, voted annually by the students in the DDS course.
Professor Henry Atkinson Celebrates his 102nd Birthday
MDS staff at a recent function to celebrate the 102nd birthday of Prof Henry Atkinson, Prof Mike Morgan (right) led staff in singing happy birthday to Henry.
The Melbourne Dental School has an outstanding tradition in research. It has forged an international research reputation. The School is a core participant in the Oral Health Cooperative Research Centre. It also participates in the Bio21 Institute where research extends to structural chemistry, bacterial biofilms and peptide vaccine technology.
