Graduate Orientation and Certification Program
Your course begins on Monday 2 February 2009 with this important week-long program. You must be here at 9.00am on this day for the commencement of the Graduate Orientation and Certification Program. This program contains certification sessions crucial to undertaking clinical training in the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne and important ‘survival’ information about facilities and services provided by the University. The program is conducted jointly by the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne and the University of Melbourne.
Graduate Study Rooms
The Melbourne Dental School provides study areas for graduate students. Students enrolled full-time and who undertake the majority of their clinical training with the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne will be allocated a desk with storage space. Part-time students or students who do not undertake the majority of their clinical training with the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne will be allocated lockable storage space for holding personal items and some study materials. Four shared desks are available for use as well. Students will need to organise their allocated space efficiently and store excess materials at home to ensure a comfortable study environment for all.
Police Record Checks
Clinical placements are part of the graduate clinical courses and are undertaken at the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne, other metropolitan hospitals and metropolitan and rural community clinics. Most hospitals and clinical agencies require Police Record Checks (http://www.police.vic.gov.au/content.asp?Document_ID=274)
for all students, staff and volunteers who will come into contact with children, elderly and vulnerable people.
All students commencing a clinical course, both local and international, are required to obtain a police check at their own expense prior to enrolment. International students and students who studied outside Australia (including New Zealand) in the year prior to enrolment must obtain a police record check from the country in which they spent that year.
Working with Children Checks
All students who will come in contact with children during their course are required to obtain a Working with Children Check prior to enrolment. Working with Children checks are valid for 5 Years. Students whose course extends beyond 5 years will be required to obtain a new check.
Please read the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Science Working with Children Check Policy. Applying for a Working with Children Check, see the sample application and information sheet (PDF 1 MB).
