Use of Online Survey Tools
Data security for online survey tools (such as Survey Monkey) is currently being reviewed by the University’s Privacy Officer.
Online survey tools cannot guarantee the anonymity of respondents because it is possible for IT experts to track Internet access and data to specific computers. Researchers should advise respondents of this risk by placing an advisory note at the introduction page of their survey site. The advisory note should also refer respondents to the survey tool’s privacy and security information.
Highly sensitive information should not be sought through online survey tools, but rather through paper documentation.
