Alternative pathways to the Bachelor of Dental Science Course

Program Entry Requirements Time Commitment Structures
Bachelor of Science (Honours) Oral Biology
  • Faculty Honours Score of >65% minimum
  • 1-year full time. Part time not available. There is no mid-year intake.
  • Honours comprises a research project subject and an advanced coursework subject.
Lateral Entry Bachelor of Dental Science
  • ENTER
  • UMAT
  • Tertiary level achievements >70% minimum
Particular attention is paid to performance in basic science subjects that are relevant to Dental Science, e.g. Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy, Maths, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, etc.
  • 5 years full-time. Part time not available. There is no mid-year intake.
  • Fixed course.
  • Students must pass all subjects in their current year of enrolment before proceeding to the next year.
Master of Science (Dental Science)
  • An undergraduate degree in dentistry with very good academic results and/or
  • A Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree or equivalent with H1 or H2A standard in the appropriate, or closely related, discipline.
  • Minimum of 12 months and maximum of 2 years full-time candidature (or minimum of 2 years and maximum of 4 years part-time)
  • Normally, a 30,000 word thesis (unless otherwise stated), on an approved topic.
PhD By Research
  • An undergraduate degree in dentistry with very good academic results and/or
  • A Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree or equivalent with H1 or H2A standard in the appropriate, or closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of 12 months and maximum of 3 years full-time candidature (or minimum of 2 years and maximum of 6 years part-time).
  • A thesis of approximately 80,000 words.
