RESEARCH HIGHER DEGREE STUDENTS - RESEARCH FUNDS POLICY
The Research Committee of the School of Dental Science invites applications from postgraduate students for research funding (small equipment, maintenance, consumables – excluding printing and binding of thesis) for 2008.
*NB: Staff who are also Research Higher Degree students are not eligible to receive this funding.
The application form can be downloaded at http://www.dent.unimelb.edu.au/dsweb/current_students/student_forms.html under Research Forms, Application for Research Funds. This form can be filled in electronically, printed and then checked and signed by the applicant’s supervisor. Electronic submissions will not be accepted.
Conditions of Grant:
- The following research funds are available to students for small equipment, maintenance and consumables (excludes printing and binding of thesis):
- PhD - $1000 per year (for up to 4 years)
- MDSc (research/major thesis) - $1000 per year (for up to 2 years)
- PgradDipClinDent - $800 per year (for up to 3 years)
- DClinDent / DOMS- $800 per year (for up to 3 years)
- GradDipOMS - $400 per year (for 1 year)
- BSc Hons - $1000 per year (for 1 year)
- MSc - $1000 per year (for up to 2 years)
- GradDipForOdont - $800 per year (for 1 year)
- Part-time students will be eligible for a pro-rata rate.
- Applications for funds to attend conferences will not be considered on this form– please apply via Postgraduate Travel Award Application Form.
- Applications to support statistical consultation will only be considered if the applicant has either completed or enrolled in the subject Research Design 2 - 511-732 (DCD); 511-842 (PgradDipClinDent) or 511-872 (PgradDipOMS).
- A fresh application is necessary each year and this should include a report on progress to date.
- Applications must specifically explain the aim of the project and the desired outcome together with an itemized description of items/equipment being requested.
- This application process is an opportunity for students to apply for a competitive peer-reviewed grant. Incomplete or unjustified responses will result in applications being rejected.
- It is the student’s responsibility to ensure full details and itemized responses are provided where necessary.

Round 1 – Friday, 4 April 2008
Round 2 – Friday, 5 September 2008
Submission
Applications are to be submitted to the Research Administrator in Room 4.408, 4th Floor before the close of business on the above dates.
Successful Applicants
Successful applicants will be notified via email of the outcome of their application. For access to funds, students should see the Finance Officer, Mr Colin Turner in room 4.410, 4th floor.
