RESEARCH INTERESTS
CANDIDA EPIDEMIOLOGY AND PATHOGENESIS
-
clinical aspects, species and genotypic variation of oral yeast infections in patients from a wide variety of clinical settings. This has included patients with oral mucosal disorders, Sjogren’s syndrome, special needs, diabetes, bone marrow transplant recipients, orthodontic appliance wearers, oral prosthetic patients and patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus
- assessing aspects of the global genotypic variation of both Candida albicans and Candida dubliniensis.
ORAL CARCINOGENESIS
- instigating research assessing the utility of a newly developed oral brush biopsy technique for the diagnosis of oral mucosal dysplasia and neoplasia. It is anticipated that this research will attempt to extend the utility of this technique by assessing for the presence of mutations via this brush biopsy technique by using modern molecular methodologies.
ORAL THERAPEUTICS
- Part of the Expert Panel for the recently published (2007) Therapeutic Guidelines book titled “Oral and Dental”. Chair of the Australian Dental Association’s Therapeutics Committee. On the Advisory Editorial Panel and writes the “Dental Comments” for the Australian Prescriber
