Dr Darby is the current head of periodontics and is responsible for the school’s specialization program in Periodontics, DClinDent(Perio). In addition, he also has involvement in the Grad Dip Clin Dent (implants), BDSc and BOH periodontics and implant surgery components. I am supervising 2 PhD and 9 DClinDent theses. I also practice as a specialist dentist at the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne, Dental Health Services Victoria. I am the current President of the Australian Society of Periodontology Vic Branch, Editor of the ASP journal, Periodontology, and am Secretary of the ANZ division of the IADR.

- Clinical, microbiological and immunological aspects of the aetiology and pathogenesis of periodontal disease esp. determination of loser sites and active disease;
- Ridge preservation;
- Clinical outcomes and aesthetic results of non-submerged immediate implants;
- Investigation of the efficacy of immediate implant treatment and healing at peri-implant defects.
