TEACHING INTERESTS
- I have been involved in the teaching of Oral Anatomy Radiology for the past 10 years as a part time member (currently 50%) in the unit of Oral Anatomy, Medicine & Surgery. During this time I have redesigned the undergraduate radiology curriculum in line with the advances in modern radiological technology. A digital radiological archive of material has been set up which is used by students & contributed to by other staff members. It is available on line & on CD ROM. The radiological archive is an ongoing project that is providing a student resource for the study of dental and maxillo-facial disease
- As there was a dearth of appropriate published material in the area of Human and Comparative Dental Anatomy, I have assembled and written teaching material for an Oral Anatomy Handbook. This is updated yearly. It has been scanned and is available to students both on the WWW (Topclass) and as a CD ROM available for loan from the Unit.
- The practical program in Oral Anatomy has been completely redesigned as a result of student feedback. After several unsuccessful attempts at a completely Problem Based Learning approach, the course is now a hybrid system which has retained the student centred approach of PBL together with the psychological support of a didactic lecture program. The lecture material is available for student study and loan on CD ROM and on line.
- Establishment of a photographic and radiological archive of rare skeletal material for the study of comparative cranial and dental anatomy was begun in 2002 and is continuing. The project is carried out in conjunction with the Melbourne Zoo.
- Co-ordination & design of two new continuing Education courses relating to the evolution of the dentition and the temporomandibular joint has been recently completed. These are one day courses involving both lectures and practical material. It was intended to offer these courses in this academic year (2003), but owing to the intended move, the offer has been deferred until 2004.
- Occasional lectures are delivered to the Equine Dental Certification course, Deakin University, and to the graduate program in Radiology, Royal Melbourne Hospital.
